Having had personal
experience with two of my sled dogs, Drifter and
Naoisha, with canine lymphoma in a 12-month time
frame, I have decided I want to help with
awareness and also to help raise money to help
others pay for the costs of their dog's cancer
treatment.
In May 2007 Drifter (Alaskan malamute and main
wheel dog) was diagnosed with lymphoma and he died
in June 2007. I was still dealing with his
loss when Naoisha (Samoyed and main wheel dog) was
diagnosed in Sept. 2007 with lymphoma! I was
in shock! Naoisha lost his battle with
lymphoma in June 2008. I want to honor my
two amazing dogs who died from lymphoma and raise
awareness of canine cancer. My journey will,
I hope, not only shine a light on canine cancer,
but also help others that are trying to save their
dogs but are struggling financially for
treatment(s).
The PIDT dogs start fall conditioning in early
September each year to get ready for their job of
providing dog sledding experiences to the
public. PIDT has set a goal of
traveling 600 miles from September 1, 2011 - March
1, 2012. For every 50 miles the dogs travel,
PIDT will donate $5 to
Paws
Against Canine Cancer to benefit the
nonprofit organization Canine Cancer Awareness,
Inc. You can be involved! Donate
money and miles to the cause, run, walk, whatever
with your dog and keep track of your own miles and
donate money, challenge others--whatever creative
idea you may have to spread the word about canine
cancer BUT also the need for money to help people
pay for the cost of treatment for their dog!
